I hope to see you at this year’s Prime Living Senior Expo!

I hope to see you at this year’s Prime Living Senior Expo! Debbie-Gardner-NEW-250x250.jpg

Were you among the nearly 2,500 people who attended the first-ever Prime Living Senior Expo in the Aria Ballroom of the MGM Casino last August?

If so, there was a good chance I handed you your show bag, or helped you register on one of our lobby computers.

I was at the door for the entire show, though I doubt few of the attendees recognized me.

I’ll be taking up the same post this Aug. 27, when we return to MGM’s Aria Ballroom for our second Prime Living Senior Expo.

I hope you’ll put this year’s show on your calendar and make the time to stop by to say “hello.” I love chatting with readers about Prime. I’m also always on the lookout for a great story idea so if you’ve got an idea or a tip, come prepared to share!

When’s the best time to stop by? That’s always a personal choice, but I do have a couple of suggestions.

If you’d like to get in a quick morning stretch, come just after the show opens and share a 10-minute yoga stretch with my friend and personal yoga instructor Lynn McCarthy. She’ll be offering the stretch segments throughout the first hours of the show.

I’ve been taking yoga classes with Lynn through the West Springfield Park & Rec Department for about eight years now. I discovered them when my now-23-year-old son was on the competitive gymnastics team at Daggett (Now Western Mass) Gymnastics during his high school years and I needed something to help fill the hours-long practice times. Lynn’s classes were the perfect combination of workout and serenity. Now I go to stay flexible and to combat the height “shrink” we all experience as we age.

Lynn knows how to modify movements for every kind of condition. Come and start the day off feeling energized and maybe, a little taller!

If you’re the kind of show attendee who likes a side of entertainment with your information, stop by at 1 p.m. when the Cameo Club – the entertainment arm of the Ms. Massachusetts Senior America Pageant – joins us for another great show.

Anyone who attended the Expo in the afternoon last year got a chance to see these talented ladies – every one over the age of 60 – put on one heck of a show. This year, we’ll even have some chairs, though I’ll wager the event will still be standing room only.

I promise you, it’s entertainment you won’t want to miss.

Check out the info in this month’s issue, too!

You’ll find plenty of info in this month’s issue as well. Our calendar is chock full of activities – everything from free admission to Historic Deerfield (bring the grandkids), to an old-fashioned country fair, to a Legos® extravaganza, to free music and even a beer festival! Gina Barry, my finance and estate planning writer, outlines all the steps women need to take to be certain they are financially independent as they age. My alternative health writer, Jonathan Evans, shares answers to some of the most-asked questions at his store, the Herbarium, as well as tips on keeping your lungs healthy while we endure bouts of Canadian wildfire smoke.

And as always, the Six Things You Need to Know has some tantalizing tidbits to share – from where you can get lost among the sunflowers in a special maze, to how to find out the quality of your local air, to YouTube videos that explain the pros and cons of Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, to why Mom was right – you really do need to brush and floss your teeth daily.

Whatever you choose to do in August, I hope you find a way to make the most of this final month of summer. And as always, thanks for reading.
