I hope to see you at the Expo!

I hope to see you at the Expo! Debbie-Gardner-NEW-250x250.jpg

Were you among the nearly 3,400 people who attended the second Prime Life Senior Expo in the Aria Ballroom of the MGM Casino last August?

If so, there was a good chance I handed you your show bag, or helped you register on one of our lobby computers.

I was at the door for the entire show again last year, though I doubt many of the attendees recognized me.

I’ll be taking up the same post this Sept. 8, when we return to MGM’s Aria Ballroom for our third annual Prime Life Senior Expo. And what a show this is going to be! With an exceptional array of exhibitors, expanded entertainment and a chance to see the  photos chosen as winners of Prime’s summer photo contest, we at Prime think this will be our best show yet.

So, I hope you’ll put this year’s show on your calendar and make the time to stop by to say “hello.” I love chatting with readers about Prime. I’m also always on the lookout for a great story...so if you’ve got an idea or a tip, come prepared to share!

When’s the best time to stop by? That’s always a personal choice, but I do have a couple of suggestions.

If you’re an early bird, plan to come down shortly after the show opens. You’ll have the chance to tour the exhibits and then get a seat for the first of two shows by the members of the Ms Senior America Massachusetts Cameo Club  – the entertainment arm of the Ms. Massachusetts Senior America Pageant. That first show takes place at 11 a.m.

Anyone who attended the Expo in the afternoon last year got a chance to see these talented ladies – every one over the age of 60 – put on one heck of a show. And I’ve heard this year’s show is going to be even better!

If you’re the kind who has standing plans on Sunday morning, never fear. There will still be plenty of time to check out the exhibitors – and catch a second show by the Cameo Club at 1 p.m. – if you come right after lunch.

Throughout the day you’ll also have the opportunity to work a few kinks out as Lynn McCarthy, longtime yoga and aerobics instructor for the West Springfield Parks and Recreation Department, offers ongoing stretching segments throughout the day. A very experienced instructor, McCarthy can adapt to any mobility issue you might have. You can even try out a bit of that hot new trend, chair yoga, with her!

Whatever time you come to the Expo, don’t forget to stop by our Prime Summer Photo contest winner exhibit. I’ve seen the submissions and I know we’re going to have some great photos on display. Please stop by and check out the winning entries!

Don’t miss the rest of the great info in this issue!

Prime’s estate planning columnist, Gina Barry, reminds us of the importance of everyone having a durable power of attorney and a health care proxy, regardless of your age. This month’s health column looks at the insights into sleep from Stanford’s Healthy Aging 50+ seminar. And in the tech column, Prime provides a listing of websites and apps where readers can check the facts as we enter this year’s unprecedented election season

You’ll also find plenty of great things to do in our monthly calendar, and some interesting tidbits in this month’s Six Things.

However you choose to spend this last month of summer, I hope you enjoy it. And as always, thanks for reading.
