August is going to be an exciting time here at Prime.
That’s because we’re getting ready to put on a show – our first ever Expo designed to bring some of the best in services and activities to you, our Prime readers!
The Expo has been in the works for some time – thwarted, as so many events and activities have been over the past two years – by the coronavirus pandemic. Originally slated for the fall of 2019, then early 2020 – all the planning, and re-planning, is finally coming to fruition at the end of this month.
We hope to see you in the Aria Ballroom at the MGM Casino in downtown Springfield on Aug. 28. The Expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lots of vendors ready and willing to help you navigate insurance, financial planning, retirement living, health and wellness and much more.
We’ve also got a little bit of entertainment planned that we hope you will enjoy.
I’ll be at the door helping with registrations, and my executive editor – and Prime columnist – Mike Dobs is also expecting to be on hand that day.
Please stop by and say “hello.” We love to chat with readers!
For complete information on the Prime Living Senior Expo, including how to get your free, advanced ticket, see this month’s feature story.
You’ll also notice that this is a heftier issue than in the past few months, thanks in part to many of the Expo vendors placing advertising in this issue. The advantage – I’ve got extra room to bring you more information and stories!
For example, Prime’s onetime – and now occasional – columnist Jane O’Donoghue returns this month with a story recounting memories of summer life on her home’s front porch during her growing up years.
The extra pages also mean this edition has room for info on the benefits of playing word games –- yes, they are good for helping you keep sharp and focused – and the dangers of potentially driving impaired when taking many common prescriptions and over-the counter drugs. Check out the story from AAA for advice on how to mitigate this potential problem.
In Three Big Questions owner of Hadley-based Escapes for Everyone Diane Kieras-Ciolkos shares tips and advice for navigating what continues to be a bumpy travel season.
And of course, you’ll find stories from our monthly columnists –- Atty. Gina Barry, Herbal Information Specialist Jonathan Evans, columnist G. Michael Dobbs – in this issue, along with advice on updating your computer, Six Things You Need to Know, and of course, a curated selection of events to get you out and about.
As always, thanks for reading,
Debbie Gardner
