Hospice Volunteers Needed in Greater Springfield. Baystate VNA and Hospice is currently taking applications for a free Hospice Volunteer Training Course this fall. Oct. 2, Harvest Dinner Dance. At the American Legion on 379 Oak St., Springfield, on Oct. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. Dinner of roast pork with cranberry-apple stuffing, roasted potatoes, home-made macaroni and cheese, fresh green beans and apple crisp at 6 p.m. followed by dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. with DJ Tommy Tunes. Oct. 2, "Death and Taxes." Southwick-on-Stage will present "Death and Taxes," a murder mystery by Pat Cook on Oct. 2 at the Recreation Center. Event starts with a social hour (cash bar) at 6:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner and the performance. Tickets: $25 per person and must be purchased in advance as there is limited seating. Oct. 2, Annual Watershed Cleanup. The annual cleanup of the Westfield River Watershed will take place Oct. 2. Volunteers should gather at 9 a.m. Bring sturdy gloves for protection. Oct. 3, Annual Rosary Pilgrimage. Join the Parish of Saint Mary, 30 Bartlett St., Westfield, for its annual Rosary Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Litchfield, Conn., on Oct. 3, rain or shine. Oct. 5, Annual Challenge Walk takes place at 10 a.m. The traditional Longmeadow vs. East Longmeadow Challenge Walk needs an enthusiastic crew from Longmeadow. Three mile and a one mile walk to the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center on Dwight Road, sponsor of the event. Teams leave from St. Andrews Church (three mile) or Talbots (one mile). Post-walk brunch and prizes.
Oct. 6, Rotini Dinner. Friends of the Agawam Senior Center are sponsoring a rotini and meatball dinner on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. Menu: rotini, meatballs, salad, garlic bread, grated cheese, coffee, tea, and juice. Tickets are a donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children age 10 and under. Public invited.
Oct. 7, Chair Massage Available at Senior Center. Chair massage by Gina Welch of Craniosacral and Massage Center Inc. starting at 9:20 a.m. at the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. Each session is 15 minutes. Cost is $13 for those over 60 and $15 for those under 60. Appts. are also available on Oct. 15 starting at 9:40 a.m. Chair massage is administered while the client is clothed and seated in a specially designed chair. Massage is beneficial in reducing stress, increasing circulation, managing blood pressure and helping with depression.
