Got antiques? Get expert appraisals at Storrs Library on Oct. 18

Expert appraisers from Skinner, Inc. of Boston and Antiques Roadshow fame will be returning to the Longmeadow Community House on Oct. 18 for a second benefit appraisal day as part of the 225th birthday celebration of the town of Longmeadow. The public is invited to start now to gather family treasures, antiques, and collectibles to bring to the experts for verbal estimates of auction or insurance value. Once again, advance appointments will be necessary and a fee will be charged. Last year's appraisal time was sold out so again appointments will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Application forms are now available for download at longmeadow.org by clicking on Historical Society under Groups. They also can be had at Longmeadow's Storrs Library. Last year at a similar event, several extremely valuable items were identified to the delighted surprise of their owners. Crawford Lincoln, president of the Longmeadow Historical Society, announced that Skinner will be sending two of its top experts to the local event - Stephen Fletcher and Stuart Whitehurst, both frequent Roadshow guests. They will evaluate a wide range of articles, but no stamps, coins, jewelry, or musical instruments will be considered. The event is being sponsored by the Longmeadow Historical Society in conjunction with the Longmeadow Historical Commission and Historic District Commission. Proceeds from the event will be used for the care of collections at the Society.
