AARP Tax-Aide Volunteer Opportunities Now Available

Low- and middle- income residents throughout Massachusetts need help preparing their 2007 tax returns. Join AARP Tax-Aide's dedicated corps of volunteers, and make a difference in your community. AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. "Tax time can be challenging for everyone, but it can be particularly stressful for those without resources," said AARP Massachusetts State Director Deborah Banda. "AARP Tax-Aide volunteers provide quality service to thousands of Bay State taxpayers each year." Tax counselors assist individuals with the preparation of their tax returns in accordance with guidelines established between the IRS and AARP; training is provided. In 2007, nearly 25,000 Bay State residents received assistance from AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, who prepared 40,000 tax returns. "Volunteering with AARP Tax-Aide promises to be one of the most engaging and challenging activities you will ever undertake," saidBanda. From Feb. 1 through April 15, volunteers serve at sites across the Bay State, including senior and community centers, libraries and other convenient locations. In addition, the program assists with electronic filing and online counseling, and also provides tax counseling services to individuals who are unable to leave their homes.
